Best software for Canadian home-service and trades businesses

Jobber as the operations lead, with accounting cross-links. GST on deposits and invoices.

Last updated 6 September 2026. About 14 minutes. Research from public vendor docs and CRA pages — not a hands-on lab test.

Home-service and trades businesses in Canada do not fail because they lacked a Kanban board. They fail because jobs were not scheduled, deposits were messy, HST was guessed, and the year-end shoebox arrived in February.

The operations lead in this guide is Jobber (Edmonton). The books still belong in FreshBooks, QuickBooks Online Canada, or Xero — see accounting software for Canada. Checked against public vendor and CRA pages, 29 August 2026.

I have not dispatched a Smithville plumbing crew on Jobber for this article. Jobber is here because Canadian trades firms widely use it and the company is Canadian. Head-to-head with Housecall Pro: Jobber vs Housecall Pro for Canadian home-service businesses. Scheduling-only compare (Jobber vs Square Appointments vs Jane vs Calendly): best scheduling software for Canadian small businesses.

What the job of the software is

  • Schedule and dispatch in CAD time zones, not “EST” as a US default.
  • Quotes that convert to jobs and invoices.
  • Deposits and progress invoices a customer can pay by card.
  • GST/HST on those invoices when you are a registrant.
  • A path to payroll if you have employees — payroll software.

Jobber — plans and Canadian caveats

Jobber’s public pricing page (re-checked 6 September 2026) shows Core, Connect, Grow, and Plus: Core from US$29/month billed annually (1 user; US$49/month no-commitment), Connect from US$99/month billed annually (1 user; US$139/month no-commitment), Grow from US$149/month billed annually (1 user; US$199/month no-commitment), Plus from US$399/month billed annually (1 user; US$499/month no-commitment). All subscription prices on getjobber.com/pricing are USD. The page says prices exclude sales tax where applicable. Confirm GST/HST on a Canadian bill at checkout — this site does not invent a CAD SKU. Source: https://www.getjobber.com/pricing/.

Features the page attaches to Canadian use: two-way texting in Canada, online card payments in Canada, and the ability to save a card for recurring work (processing rates apply; Jobber does not publish a single Canadian Interac-at-the-door rate on that page).

GST/HST: Jobber lets you put tax on quotes and invoices. Configure 13% Ontario HST or the correct place-of-supply rate. Put your GST/HST number on the template. The invoice still has to meet CRA information rules — how to invoice GST/HST in Ontario.

Typical split: Jobber runs the day. Nightly or weekly, paid invoices hit QuickBooks or Xero (native or via an integration) so the GST/HST return and the T2/T2125 are not rebuilt from PDF statements. FreshBooks can be enough if you are still a one-person service business and Jobber is optional.

Deeper product compares: FreshBooks vs QuickBooks vs Xero and invoicing software (including Wave if you are pre-Jobber and only sending invoices).

Cards at the door

Jobber’s online invoice payment is not the same as a Square terminal in a van. If you take tap Interac on site, you still need a Canadian POS or reader — accepting cards in Canada. Do not key card numbers into email.

A sane stack for a two-truck Ontario contractor

  1. Jobber Connect or Grow for schedule, quotes, and field invoices.
  2. QuickBooks Online or Xero if you have a bookkeeper or staff payroll; FreshBooks if you are still invoice-first.
  3. 13% HST on Ontario residential work that is taxable; confirm new housing and exempt cases with a CPA.
  4. Canadian payroll the moment you have employees — not a US Square Payroll account.
